You probably notice the Google Ads on my site and millions of other sites. Many people have become rich off these little ads. Google and Yahoo ads are a good source of income for me and this year represented a 6 figure digit.

What I have been trying to figure out is what colors work best for the ads. Some people say that really odd colors that make the ads stand out work best as it draws people’s attention to the ads. Others say making the ads match the site will get people to click as it will confuse the user to thinking the ads are normal links on the site.

Personally I believe matching the ads with the color of the site works best as many users are not against ads and purposely will not click links they know are ads. Many sites clearly put ads in boxes that say sponsor and this can sometimes gain respect for loyal users who like the site and will click to support the site.

I’ve also noticed that some sites are so messy that the ads integrate well into the site as it confuses the user into clicking.

Some sites have been able to manipulate the font of the ads to match their site, I’m not sure if this is against TOS but that also works very well. For now I’m going to stick with matching the color of ads to my site.
