Top Wordpress Plugins

I’ve been tinkering with Wordpress for a few weeks now as I continue to upgrade and update this site. I’m done lots of internet surfing looking for different word press plugins that would either help make the site better and to monetize the blog. Here is a list of plugins I use on the site:

Widget: Widgets are sidebars that some themes support. I personally like these cause it makes it very easy to setup side bars, using a gui.

Optimal Title: This plugin flips the title, to put your posts title first and your site name last. This is more effective for search engines.

Related Posts: This is a very good plugin to keep people on your site. Helps people find related posts on your site and increase ad revenues.

Adsense Deluxe: This plugin makes it easy to place ads in your site using a simple code. Very useful.

CaptCha: This puts a text image on the comment box that users must fill out before their comment is approved. Cuts down on spam.

Subscribe Me: This plugin puts a links to popular rss feeds so people can subscribe to your site.

Spell Checker: I’m not a great speller so this plugin is perfect.

Subscribe to Comments: This plugin lets people know who comment on your page that a response has been made to their comment.

Google Sitemap: This wordpress plugin will create a google compliant sitemap of your site which is great for search engines.

I have two recommendations on your Plugin list. First, consider using Firefox as your browser not IE and you will get spell check built-in on EVERYTHING. Cleans up all of your spell check issues.

Second, skip the useless CAPTCHA. They don’t work. Get the Akismet WordPress Plugin for fighting comment spam and don’t make your readers jump through hoops in order to comment. If you know anything about the web, anything you do that slows or stops the communication process stinks. Get rid of it.

I’ll be writing more about WordPress Plugins in February, so check in and you might find a few more treasures. Good luck.

Great advise, I turned off the Captcha and will look into the akismet. Great site.

    Hey,

For all you guys out there supporting video content, you can now monetize it free with the NoPrimeTime wordpress plugin. You can also crosspromote your sites if you lack advertisers.

The plugin can be found here: http://www.noprimetime.com/plugin
