Increasing Productivity With one Simple Upgrade - Dual Monitor
January 22nd, 2007 by asianTom
I’ve been using multiple monitors for years. When this feature first came out in Windows, it was a little tedious to setup, but with XP it’s a simple click of the mouse. Almost all video cards now come with dual inputs, usually one for VGA and one for dvi. Make sure you check the box when buying a new video card.
Multi monitor systems have been the standard for high end users for years usually in the finance and graphics industry.
Using 2-3 monitors together as one desktop can dramatically increase productivity and the fun factor. I personally use a 5 LCD setup for my home computer. 3 across the bottom, and 2 on top of those. This allows me to surf the web, work on web pages and watch TV at the same time.
Most people will not need this many screens but I trade stocks during the day so it’s needed.
Being able to see all your applications at once and to move data back and forth from applications can make life much easier.
Using multi monitors can put stress on you the computer resources since more applications will be open, so I suggest you get as much RAM as possible, 1 gig should be minimum.
If you do decide to setup something like this, look for LCDs with a thin bezel. This is the frame around the screen, a thinner bezel will create a less obstructive desktop creating a nicer view.
Directions on how to turn on Multi monitor in XP:
- Right click on the desktop, go to properties
- click on the settings tab
- You should see multi-monitors icons if your hardware is installed correctly
- Arrange and turn on each monitor accordingly

Hi Tom! Thanks for e-mailing me. I appreciate your advice but I have an advertising strategy which doesn’t rely on Adsense.
Once your site is a little more established and has more content, I’ll add you to my blogroll. Until then, good luck!
