If you plan to make money from your site then should have a focus. If you’re talking about everything and anything, then it’s going to be hard to get people to come back to your site unless you’re a news portal.

Having a specified topic will build a loyal following and cater to a specific crowd. Many of my sites are niche sites which have very specific topics. Even the most scarce topics have people searching for them. Let’s take an example like the php programming language. The general public has probably never heard of this term, but there are thousands if not millions of programmers out there who would know what it is.

Having a focus on your site will also get other people to link to you which will result in high search engine rankings. I’ve seen many people who are trying to make money from their blogs and have categories on everything. I believe without a focus it will be very hard to get returning visitors, so stay focused and good luck.
